I know, I’m a bad blogger. I’ll try to do a mustard post this weekend. In the mean time, from Su’s bloggy blog, the “Fine” me-me.

Here’s how it works:

You don’t have to confess your answers, just the amount of your fine. And NO, it is not PER incident (otherwise, some of us would have totals more than the national debt!).

“I don’t mean to piss you about, but…”

January 2, 2007 at 2:12 pm (Debt Work, General Life)

I’m home from my first day at work. I can’t say I’m all too impressed. The day started off with me waiting 45 minutes for the HR guy to get me and the other two trainees that started today. After filling out loads of paperwork, I was send to the department that I was to work in. They showed me to the department head, who handed me off to her subordinate (who happens to be Emma’s brother’s ex), who handed me off to HER subordinate, who then passed me along to someone who I was to sit with and listen in on calls.

That lasted about an hour until they realized that they had me in the wrong department. Emma’s cousin is one of the uppity-ups, and she had requested that I be changed to a different department, and the HR guy hadn’t known. Since the new department is actually a different company, I had to go back to the HR guy and fill out a whole new set of paperwork. Then cousin came and gave me the run down – no tattoos showing, and NO facial piercings. So, out went my labet. She sat me down with a guy who deals with the incoming clients. He got bored of me after about 30 minutes, so he shifted me off to another guy who deals with recovering all the debts and tracking down creditors. He only started a month ago, so he knew about as much as I did. He actually said,”I have no idea why they put you with me, but maybe we can figure out the job together.”

Two hours later, cousin comes back, and tells me that they are shifting me to yet ANOTHER department – Emma’s department – but for only three weeks. Emma’s very behind on her work, and Sarah wants me to help her out. After three weeks, she will “figure out” what she wants me doing. At least when I got to Emma’s department, I actually got to sit down and do some data entry instead of just picking my nose.

Needless to say, I wasn’t too thrilled at the lack of organization in this place. The nice thing is, I’m working 9-5, which means I’ll be home at 6ish. I’m going to go open a bank account tomorrow during my lunch hour. Then, I’m leaving work an hour early to have my first appointment with my new doctors. I hope tomorrow’s a better day.

Benedryl Zombie has jet-lag

January 1, 2007 at 1:30 pm (General Life)

Another day spent sleeping. Not so much jet lag as allergy meds knocking me out today.

Yesterday, Emma and I went out for Chinese with Caroline and Alen. They spent some of the night correcting me on my English pronunciation (like to-mah-toes instead of to-may-toes, and not to refer to it as a “restroom”, but as “the toilet”). It was a good meal, even though the place was absolutely packed, insanely warm, and filled with cigarette smoke. We walked to the Kings pub after the meal and stayed there until just after midnight. More people, more smoke, and the music was of the British pop variety, so I didn’t know much. The nicest bit was on the walk home, there were fireworks going off in the nearby neighborhood, so Em and I watched those for a bit.

I start my new job tomorrow. I’m very nervous. I know I can do the job, but I’m so worried that because of the accents, I’ll have trouble understanding the people, and I’ll come across as a moron. Em says I’ll be fine. If it goes awful, I know I’ll be calling home for a pep talk. Tomorrow’s wake up call is 6:40am. Later than what I’m used to for working at ACS, but I haven’t gotten up before 9am here. Then it’s catching the bus at 7:15am, for about an hour long bus ride. I haven’t figured out what I’m going to do on the bus for an hour to keep myself occupied; probably just crochet the blanket I’ve been working on.

Moments with myself

December 30, 2006 at 9:05 am (Personal Revelations & Whatnot)

Emma’s gone off grocery shopping with her mum, so I’ve got some time alone for the first time since being here. It’s so quiet. I’m sitting in our livingroom, near a large picure window. I can see the hills through the fog. Like always, it’s raining. More like a drizzle, but a cold one. The neighborhood we live in is full of retirees, and every so often, they walk by the house, going who knows where. They are always polite enough to wave to me, even though they don’t know who I am. I wave back, since maybe I will get to know them.

I walked in our back garden for a bit, barefoot, in the rain, like I used to do at my house in Tiverton. The ground was much colder but softer, and the grass had a different texture. We’ll see how it is come summer time, when I like to just sit in the grass and read or crochet. I put some stale bread in the birdfeeder, and some ravens came by for a snack. From the back yard, I can see the chapel that the town was named after. It’s older than the USA, and I went inside it this past summer with Emma’s dad.

I started crocheting a blanket on the plane, and I’ve kept it going since. It’s going to be one large granny square, made of Caron’s Rainbow Dream, in Jet Stream. It’s like a mixture of greens, purples, and blues. It’ll match the colors of the bed set we have. I lost my reading glasses a while back, so when I was out shopping yesterday, I bought a pair from Boot’s. It’s a cheapo pair, but they do the job.

I’m home!

December 29, 2006 at 2:40 pm (General Life, The Big Move)

Well, new home. I still feel kind weird saying that, and realizing that this really is my new home. I got here in one piece, with details to be given later. The good news is, I got a free bump to 1st class on the Philly to Mancheser leg.

I spent the day running around Stockport, sorting out odds and ends. I registered with the local doctor, changed my few dollars into pounds, bought some things at the shops, got a new cell phone and number, and put in a few hours in my new job.

I’m starting work officially on Tuesday. Bit nervous, for sure.

In the Waiting Room

December 23, 2006 at 9:35 am (General Life, The Big Move)

I feel like I’m in some weird life-waitingroom.

Work ended yesterday.

I move Wednesday.

Today’s going to be spent packing. I shipped off five boxes of stuff yesterday (costing me about $270 to ship…ouch!). My bro Saul bought me some of those vacuum packing bags to get more stuff packed in my suitcases. We’ll seeĀ  how those work. I’m watching MSNBC and seeing all the troubles at the airport – seems like it has that every year.
