Mom and Dad’s Reaction

August 15, 2006 at 1:08 pm (The Big Move)

Yesterday, I let Mom and Dad know that I’m moving to the UK to be with Emma. I prefaced it by telling them that Emma had been happy at work, and was making more money there than she would be making here for many years.

Mom was fine with it. “What an adventure!” and “Well, you’re old enough now.” She didn’t seem to have any problems at all.

My Dad cried. At least I think he did. He kept wiping his eyes. He asked me lots of questions – how was I going to earn money, how would I pay for healthcare, can I get over there on the visa I am looking into, what will I do.

In the end, I left them to digest for a while. We’ll see how today goes.

Not completely bad. See, my mother would have sobbed and went hysterical and my dad would have been like “okay”.

Good, the tough part is done for you now.

Well that wasn’t to bad I have to agree. I don’t know what I would do if my only child said she was moving that far. I don’t know if it matters how many kids you have though. You know? Anyways it could have been worse. I think Dad needs to be comfortable that you will be ok. 🙂 Thank your stars you have both parents!
